Captivated By:

  1. The accident of it all. A lockdown documentary about self-published erotica, a novel that grew to 600 pages, a few nudes on Reddit that "nobody would notice." Then one afternoon the cameras were running while we made love, and it turned out people wanted the real thing. So did we.
  2. Light. Hawaiʻi light on skin, late afternoon at Kahala, the light in eighty-year-old family home movies we've just restored. Most of what we do, in bed and out of it, comes down to looking carefully.
  3. Each other, still, after careers in law and business, a farm and a dog hotel in England, and a move to the islands. Our golden years haven't made us less curious. They've made us less embarrassed.

Can’t live without:

  1. KaHoku, our service dog, who walks us to the dog park every day and takes no interest whatever in our film career.
  2. The edit. Three or four cameras, a timeline, and a long evening finding the moment that was actually true. He would rather edit than almost anything. She would rather write.
  3. Words. Her novel and the sequel she's working on, her writing on feeding dogs properly, his family histories and the archive he can't stop adding to. Sex is one chapter of our life together. It's a good chapter.

Deeply grateful for:

  1. A life in Hawaiʻi where one day can hold sex, a film, a family-history breakthrough and a walk with the dog, in no particular order.
  2. Strangers who wanted honesty over polish. That includes the 4.5 million people who watched me lose an argument with a vibrating cock ring, proof that people will watch anything if it's real.
  3. The community: the thirty-odd subreddits we moderate, the couples whose films we've cut for free, the women we've helped shoot boudoir without ever sending a bill. And that the kind people have always outnumbered the trolls.
